First Time SFG Box
This is my first attemp at a SFG, or any garden for that matter. It is a 4' x 8' x 18" box with 12" garden soil topped with 6" MM with a drip irrigation system.
The trellis system is 1/2" galv. electrical conduit and the removable critter box
is 1/2" PVC and plastic mesh.
I have planted cucumbers, green beans, and two types of tomatoes in the row next to the trellis. Next row is broccoli and three types of peppers. Next row is cilantro, carrots, romain lettice and zenias. Last row is two other types of lettice, basil, green onions, and zenias. There are two squares of each plant/variety. Everything was been started from seed in the box. The peppers were very slow to start and seem small for planting in Feb, I guess I should have started them indoors?

Very nice!
43 years a gardener and going strong with SFG.

Re: First Time SFG Box
It's been a lot of fun and not too much work with just one box. Maybe I'll add another box or two next year next year

Looks like you have a good start there, I guess we get a bit of a head start on the growing season here in southern california.

The artwork in the background is actually an art panel from a freeway installation in Orange County, CA. It's a fiberglass panel with 3D relief that a friend of mine who works for Caltrans gave to me. It was a prototype and he let me "field test" it for the UV resistance of the image. I wanted to hang it higher on the wall but my neighbor didn't like the idea (bolting into the wall of his garage).

June Update
Things are really taking off, looks like somethings are finished. The cilantro is in full bloom. Guess I don't eat as much cilantro as I thought I would. Much of the lettuce is blooming or ready to. It all seemed to grow so vertical, even the romain. Next time I won't space them so closely, seem to be reaching for sunlight.
![First Time SFG Box Garden17](https://i.servimg.com/u/f78/18/26/69/34/garden17.jpg)
Tomotoes are doing well. Carrots are tall but only abbout 4" long. The green onions never took off, maybe to much shade from evrything else. All my peppers petered out, next year I will start indoors and not plant seed. I bought some nursury plants to replace my puny peppers.
![First Time SFG Box Garden18](https://i.servimg.com/u/f78/18/26/69/34/garden18.jpg)
The basil is starting to come on stronger. Green beans are better but don't think they are up to green bean standards. I'm most excited about my first cucumber.
