from my garden
I'm eating radicchio lettuce, nasturtium leaves, red sails lettuce, lambs quarter, garlic chives.
I cut a zucchini and gave it to my dad instead of keeping it for myself. He deserves it, he raised me.
I just now am remaking my garden after having everything pulled up to put a new sewer in.
I have just started, tomatoes on the way (if the raccoon don't get them first) I also have epozote, cilantro, purslane, tree collard, perilla, scarlette runner beans.
I'm in the SF Bay Area

I'm a few hours north of you in Redding. Our raccoon hasn't done much damage so far. Fingers crossed it stays that way. Sounds like you have a lot of good stuff going on. Can you post some pics? (If you need help, there's a how-to section right under "Welcome Mat" on on the main forum page.)

yolos ... that Gazpacho looks great. I need to urge on my tomatoes (and other things) so that I can try to make a batch of it.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
For dinner this evening I picked some icicle radishes, regular radish, turnip greens, herbs, nasturtium leaves, swiss chard, pak choi, green bunching onion and garlic scapes. These were sauteed along with some mushrooms and served with ham and potato. The nasturtium leaves were added at the end as a garnish. I cooked the SFG stuff and Mrs TD cooked up the ham and potatoes. We just made this up as a trial recipe. BTW this is the first time we have had garlic scapes and I would not have know about eating them if it was not for this forum.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Too busy gardening, cooking, and other life stuff to keep up with posting!
I've eaten more of my arugula. Love it! Spicy arugula, purple carrots, heirloom tomatoes, Chinese artichokes, and Tetsukabuto squash were my top five reasons for having my own garden.
Last week I harvested beets. Very happy. These were from transplanted seedlings -- generally I hear beets lumped with the other root vegetables that don't transplant well, but my late grandfather's copy of Crockett's Victory Garden said beets transplant fine, so I decided to give it a go.
The second square of beets I planted later in the same box seems 'stuck' - alive, and not unhealthy looking, but barely growing. I suspect they will be woody. But they have about a month to do whatever, and then pak choy get that square.
Last week I had some of my mustard greens in an Indian dish, and yesterday I had more in a Chinese dish, so I could clear the square to plant rutabegas. I also made a chicken salad using mache that I needed to clear out to transplant the squash seedlings.
Last Friday I made sukiyaki and used some of my chrysanthemum greens, and spinach -- the Renegade spinach that was doing so well finally started bolting a week before solstice.
I've also been eating peas - snow peas, snap peas, shell peas (Tall Telephone =Alderman), and purple peas. I had my first taste of fresh shell peas How have I missed out on this for so long? Still I agree that there's not much yield per square. Purple and other peas (on a red cabbage leaf that strayed too far outside its square):
Earlier this week I invited friends over for chef salads to try to use more of my bolting lettuce. I even had to pick more because they wanted seconds! They got a quick tour of the garden around dusk. They are moving from an apartment near me to a house in Nebraska... where they will have a yard... perhaps I can recruit them to SFG...

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I had my first ever year with sugar snaps....love. Just love. And they were such a handsome plant! Early pollinator magnet too!
Beetles, I pulled 2 of my beets last weekend. One Detroit red, and a Chiogga. They are almost there, maybe I will look better tomorrow. I was watering in the dusk. Stuff is really dry.
My carrots aren't ready at all.
Tonight, I ate my first ever ground cherry--A MA Zing. And I snuck the first couple cherry maters (Sungold) in and they are like shoogah!

Maters!!
Finally! In 2016 we have tomatoes worthy of a tomato sandwich.
A hybrid called Better Boy.
And yes, that's toasted white bread and mayo. I have lived for this day.
Although I may give this yummy sounding gourmet English version a try.

Creamy mayonnaise mixed with tangy dijon and spiked with finely grated onion and chopped basil.

Both sound amazing! I saved the gourmet page to my reading list for when I get some maters!, thanks for the recipe, SeeMore!

Hi Lopez! I see you listed epazote -- did you grow it from seed? My two attempts to grow it from seed have had zero germination. I wondered if there was a trick to it?lopez wrote:I'm eating radicchio lettuce, nasturtium leaves, red sails lettuce, lambs quarter, garlic chives.

I haven't sown my purslane seeds yet, nor my runner beans -- I only just squeezed in a bed for them to go in. It's a bit late, but I might try to plant a few anyhow.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Tried something new today after seeing a related on a cooking show this morning. Picked two of the mini butternut squashes that were ripe but only about four inches long. Peeled them, sliced on the mandoline, swirled in water, dried and gave them a quick spray of olive oil and hit them with garlic salt and oregano. Then popped them into the microwave in a single layer for about 5 minutes turning half way through.
Very yummy butternut squash chips.
