Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Hello All! I was getting the garden ready for Fall planting and picked some goodies. The Red peppers are Banana peppers and must have crossed with someone else peppers ( I have no hot peppers growing anywhere in our garden) as they have a little Heat to them. They have been growing since spring and were sweet. Now they have a little Heat to them.

New Zealand spinach tonight and green beans spinach for the next 3 nights. Burp. Oh, the sweet potatoes are thickening in their totes.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I made a double batch of tabbouleh on Friday and have been eating it all weekend! It's almost all gone.
I went out and picked scallions & chives, Roman tomatoes, mint and tons of parsley. Only the grains (I used quinoa), lemon, amino acids and EVOO weren't from the garden.
Sooooooo yummy!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I harvested some Peppers from the garden yesterday and had a good bit of Banana Peppers that were hot from turning red. I decided to turn them into hot pickles. I have a "refrigerator pickle recipe" that I like, so in a few weeks I will have some nice hot pickled peppers for sandwiches. Below are some pictures.
Bell and Banana Peppers and 1 small Eggplant
Banana Peppers chopped and seeds saved.
Ready to go into the fridge for a few weeks.
Enjoy, Ryan and Nancy

NAR - your banana peppers turn red?
Mine were turning purple... Of course, mine were an accidental buy from a big box store - the Bonnie's type. Got them on the dehydrator right now.
What type are yours, NAR?

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Marie, I purchased them from a local nursery and the tag just said "Banana Pepper". I usually pick them when they are green and use them with Bell pepper when cooking. I could had sworn I picked a few in the Summer that were Red and they were sweet. These Red ones have some heat to them as they must have crossed from some other plant. I like them either way.AtlantaMarie wrote:NAR - your banana peppers turn red?

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Just picked what might be the last of the green beans for the year - depending on our cold weather coming in. A nice big bag with Dragons tongues and Kentucky Wonder that will give us 2 or 3 servings. I sense bacon n beans for dinner tonight!
Working feverishly to harvest all of the cherry toms and dehydrate them for sun dried tomatoes or ground up to make sauces with.

Lettuce and bell peppers towards a salad. This is a first for me.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Collard greens, brazilian style. Basically you strip the stem from the leaves, pile the leaves on top of each other nicely, then roll them up into a fat cigar shape. Then cut the cigar into 1/8" strips. Heat up a cast iron skillet with some oil, add chopped garlic and shallots for a minute or so, then add the collard strips. Only need to cook for a couple of minutes until they start to wilt. My wife was raised on the southern way of cooking collards, and even she has come around to this method.....once in a while at least.
