Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
For supper:
Home made soup that contains whatever I have around and save in the freezer.
Followed by Blue Cod fillets sauteed in olive oil and garlic along with pattypan squash, chard, tomatoes and topped with roasted red peppers, and then Greek yogurt topped with apple sauce.
Everything from the garden except for the fish and the olive oil.
For anything with yogurt or ice cream I have a choice of apples, blueberries, raspberries or strawberries, or golden and red plums.

This what I call my Thursday Soup. Every Thursday I clear the fridge of anything that can be used in a soup; cauliflower, chard, carrots, potatoes, celery, onions, etc. etc., then add anything else to make it more tasty, such as garlic, condiments and spices, then cook and freeze into single portions, Thaw, then adjust anything if needed. Sometimes I may add packet soups like leek or mushroom. Each batch is different. Sometimes I make batches of spaghetti sauce and and some of the soup.

One good thin for me is that I clear the fridge on a regular basis and I seldom have any "science experiments" hanging around any more.

Love the success you're having with your garden, and I especially envy the fruit and berries! Fresh fruit is one of the best things on earth.

Soup that includes fresh tomatoes, carrots and cabbage along with other ingredients. It has gotten cooler so this is the time for warm things for these old bones.

Yes, GG...my soup days are just ahead also.
Meanwhile, I just ate some remarkably strong garlic chives on my sandwich that I can't seem to get away from.
*whew* Poor co-workers.

Lunch today consisted of a small 4 oz can of tuna flakes in brine ( drained )
Things out the garden :-
A spring onion , two sticks of fantastic tasting celery, a fiver inch long finger of fairly thick carrot, two delicious greenhouse ripened tomatoes plus a few cut & come again leaves.

Wife took a picture of me carrying in the 11 lb. Hopi squash. Going to make squash, cheddar and chipotle soup for the food co-op end of season pot luck. Will eat the rest like regular squash so we will see how good it is.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Potatoes, onion, and garlic, sauteed with rockfish (formerly red snapper--PC, I believe), and a few tiny broccoli heads, plus some yellow squash from last year's harvest.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Wow, John. Nice squash.
I made some chicken stock and stepped out side for fresh parsley and thyme. I get a rush doing that. snip, snip. The other spices came from the cupboard but the coriander seeds, sage, bay leaf (over the fence from my neighbor), garlic and rosemary are from my garden this summer.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Thanks. We cooked the squash last night and ate some with dinner. It is really sweet, can't wait to try the soup.
Made a batch of tomato juice with carrots, onion, kale and peppers this morning. Letting it cool some before running it through the mill. The reason I made it this morning is that my indoor cat spent the night outside fighting with a feral cat, at least howling at each other all night. Tried to get him in the middle of the night but to no avail. Kept us awake all night so I finally just said the heck with it and got up at 3:30 and started the juice. Cat sauntered in about 5:00 am.

Oh those crazy cats.
John, do you blend your veggies for the juice? Before or after cooking? What's a mill?

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
CC I am probably using the wrong terminology calling it a mill. It is one of those things that looks like a sauce pan but has holes in the bottom and a crank that turns a metal plate that forces all the liquid and stuff that will crush through the holes. Probably could do the same thing with a sieve. I don't run the tomato juice through a processor or blender. Just cook it about 30 min. on simmer.

John, I think I found the mill you are talking about:

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Hay CC, that's it. The one in that post you sent is way better than the one I have but the concept is the same. Mine works but the one in the video looks like it works a lot better and you can dis-assemble it unlike mine. BTW The Hopi squash, cheddar and chipotle soup was the hit of the pot luck last night. It was rich and thick and the whole crock pot was gone. Glad we made to much and left some at home.
As a side note after spending the whole night Sat. night sleepless from my cat being outside howling all night, last night he felt like he wanted to go back out and bugged me to the point of going to the spare room so my wife could sleep. Two nights without sleep is enough, anyone like a nice "sweet" innocent kitty, free shipping.

Free shipping to Minnesota? I could use a couple of cats to take out the mouse and vole population.johnp wrote:Hay CC, that's it.
