I agree, Atlanta Marie, I used to lurk as a guest to start with, then I joined and still I lurked for a while. Then I made the plunge and made a three or four-word comment, got a wonderful welcome, and haven't looked back since.

I wouldn't be surprised if some of us old regulars who have been on the forum for years find it easier to poke around as a guest without logging on. Then if something is response-worthy then log on and speak up. I've done this because it's the laziest approach!

I assume that if I exit the page or go to another Internet site then I am logged off. Sometimes I am asked to log in and I thought that was just to make sure the I am who I say I am?

If you're logged in, you will be automatically logged out after 30 minutes of inactivity. The next time you look at something on the forum, you'll be automatically logged back in.
Two exceptions that I can think of:
Every 3 or 4 weeks, the servers are re-set, and everyone is logged out, the same as selecting 'Log Out' in the green nav bar.
If you clear your computer's cookies, the next time you show up here, the forum software won't recognize that you were previously logged in.
