As a test to see if I can post links yet I thought I'd share how we can figs.  its a very old recipe and method from as far back as I can remember.  The link if it works will take you to a short blog post and a video of actually canning them.
What amde me think of this is its what I had for breakfast on a hot biscuit.

I have high hopes that I'll have figs to eat in 2016.  Planting little cuttings in buckets this past summer.

I wish you luck figs are amazingly hearty and the fruit is very versitile and not to mentions bibicly healthful.  Here in Cajun country they almost impossible to kill and very hearty.  If ya go to making some what we do when the crop is small is freeze them in ice bags.  once we have a bag full then we can them.  Of course many of them dont make it to the freezer and get picked ripe from the tree and eaten on the way back to the house.  The trick to getting the best sweetest is the pinch test.  Squeeze very lightly if it gives and feels soft eat it.

This is really good information! Especially about freezing the extra. Thanks, Cappy! The Brown Turkey fig is barely hardy in my area so I planted one and then sprouted 4 others from cuttings, and planted those. I'm going to cover the new babies with leaves for the winter. I'm hoping that out of 5 plants I'll get figs to eat for a while, but probably not enough to can. Although one can hope.

I saw someone with a lemon tree in half a whiskey barrell on casters, he would roll out the barrell in warm months and keep it in the garage in winter.  It was a post on the internet but it looked believable.  Since fig trees loose their leaves in winter they should be even easier to adapt to a container.
