Mid-At Aug 2014 - Cooler than normal August?
I was listening to the weather when the meteorologist mentioned that this might be the first August in history that Maryland doesn't hit the 90s. Did I hear that right? I only looked at a few Maryland cities but the highest temp I found was 88.
How had this month been for you?

Re: Mid-At Aug 2014 - Cooler than normal August?
Funny thing the weather, on holiday in Northern Germany around Hamburg they rather high temps of 38 oC plus for a while . Berlin was a little cooler but not much for the three weeks we were there .
Meanwhile here in South Wales Uk the weather has been dismal , with lots of wet & wind apparently .
My tomatoes in the glasshouse have not done too badly but the out door plants have only just started to flower and set .
The cooler crops such as brassica have done fantastic .....so did the cabbage white butterflies
Now , despite me giving all brassicas a spray of bug killer the evening before we travelled they all look like light green net curtains with zillions of cabbage white buttefly catterpillairs all over the place.
Hee hee
I zapped the little devils all over all my sfg beds and flowed beds about an hour ago with 6 litres Metacarb as a made up at home spray ( can't harvest anything for 96 hours but it's worth the wait) .
If I resorted to trying to pick the little buggers off the crops I'd need 36 hours in each day and that's without lunch breaks etc. as there are that many .

Re: Mid-At Aug 2014 - Cooler than normal August?
My hubby was in Germany during the heat wave. It was cooler here in Maryland than there.
Isn't Berlin lovely? I lived there for 3 years (just came back in 2010).

Re: Mid-At Aug 2014 - Cooler than normal August?
It has been a cool August in NJ which is extremely unusual.
We finally had rain yesterday which we needed (hubby was working outside so was not happy).
Today is a beautiful sunny day with intervals of clouds which I love!
My younger son, wife and grandson live in Washington, DC and it has been extremely hot, hot, hot.
I go back to work tomorrow after having most of the summer off. I work part-time for 10 months of the year. Great gig.
We are going to DC for the coming weekend and hopefully the temps will get a bit cooler.![Mid-At Aug 2014 - Cooler than normal August? 43549](/users/2912/12/27/03/smiles/43549.gif)

Re: Mid-At Aug 2014 - Cooler than normal August?
I live about 20 miles north of dc, and this has been the coolest summer in years. I love it and so has my garden. I sowed my fall garden seeds, and all of them sprouted with just morning waterings. In previous years, i have had to water twice a day and hope for rain to get those August seeds to sprout.

Last Day of August in MD - 90 degrees
The last day of August. We have not had a 90 degree day here in Maryland the entire month but today that changed. LOL
