A few garden pics

Here are a few end of June pics of stuff in the garden...

Pulled some garlic last night...I've never grown it before and noticed that many local market farmers decided to pull theirs because of all the recent rain.  The cloves are not very big and this could be due to 1) I had to transplant them this spring because I had to move all my SFG boxes due to a street project and/or 2) I planted them densely (16) per square.  I picked the scapes about a week ago...maybe I could have let the bulbs go for another week or so.



My perpetual variegated basil is happy in a container.


Tomato plants are already loaded down...much better than last year so far.

Picked some carrots and a few beets last night as I noticed several carrots were going to seed.  Carrots were't that great compared to last year...lots of healthy tops but smallish roots...maybe too much nitrogen (no funky split roots though) or too crowded (planted more dense that 16 per square).


And a helper in the garden while washing beets...his first time holding the hose...beet tops must be good for teething.

Wow.  Your tomatoes are miles ahead of mine...great job.  Carrots and garlic look awesome too.

My tomatoes are looking crazy good...must be a perfect mix of sun, soil, and rain.  These tomato pics are actually from the community garden where 95% of what I grow is not SFG with Mels Mix...I do most of that at my home garden where I'm limited in space and sun.

I have one SFG at the community garden and it has cranked out some really nice beets and cabbage so far this year...need to gear up for another round of fall crops in a few weeks.

As far as my new garden helper...he makes a bee-line for the raised beds every time we go outside.
