English Heirloom Cuke Photos
The largest cukes to date from the garden, and it's delicious too! It's an English heirloom variety and my first harvest from this type. I can hardly believe in this isn't a hybrid!

Nice! I always think of English cucumbers as those long, straight, bumpless thin ones, so I was surprised to see your English cuke looked like the regular Marketmore or Straight-8 type I'm most used to seeing.

Dstack, Do you know the name? If you can grow them in your semi-tropical Zone, maybe they would do good here?
Re: English Heirloom Cuke Photos
The package says English Telegraph Improved. We'll see how well it produces. This was only the first cuke. I've got 3 others starting out, but could be duds like the first couple were.sanderson wrote:Dstack, Do you know the name? I'm also trying lemon cukes. Some vines have climbed to the top of the trellis, but I've not yet seen ANY female blossoms from the four vines. I wonder if this is typical.

I wonder if this is going to be a bad year for cukes. I have no females yet either.
Hope not, I've got requests for pickles. But I made some killer garlic dills from a grossly overgrown zuke last year. One zuke made 5 pints.

Cucumbers and squash are in the same family, and it's not uncommon for a squash's first flush or two of flowers to be all male. I wouldn't worry too much about it yet.
