Re: Weather Warning - Middle South
No, I lived in Nashville for 6 years, and they just aren't prepared with trucks, plows, etc. for a severe weather pattern.
Further south, it is even worse. Stay safe, stock up. Stay in! If ya can....

No snow down here. I haven't been out to the end of the driveway to see how the road is. But there is no ice/snow on my driveway. The driveway looks almost dry. 18 degrees F tonight here is predicted. I doubt my tomatoes are going to survive this. I have to get outside (brrr) and cover up a few more things. Maybe Fava beans, mustard, and garlic/shallots.

Maybe 1/4 inch here... Already melting although NOAA says nothing above 31.
Thankfully, much ado about nothing.

When they freeze they turn brown. I wack them to the ground. They make great compost. They grow in the spring to 12 or more feet tall. The following year if tehy do not freeze we make bananas. Last year was a mild winter and now we have a dish pan full of over ripe naners in the freezer we take em out a few at a time. Too early to tell yet but I think we will hafat wack em down, das the way it goes.
Re: Weather Warning - Middle South
We had a big scare the last three days. Supposed to have gotten up to 3/4 inch of ice. The weather man advised everyone to stay off the roads, stay home and be prepared. They were WRONG.... Go figure. We only had a light glazing of ice. The temps stayed just below the freezing mark and most of it was just rain.
In 2004, we did get a 3/4 inch ice storm and our community looked like a war zone for days afterward. Electric wires, utility poles and trees down everywhere. Amazingly, we were the ONLY house in the neighborhood with electricity.
We're still under ice warnings til noon today then up to the upper 40's tomorrow then 50's and 60's and sunny the rest of the week. Unusually warm weather for zone 6.
My winter garden has amazed me this winter so far. I dug some really nice carrots and parsnips a few weeks ago and made a video but the quality was so poor, I didn't post it here. We had some 3 degree weather here for a few days and the soil did not freeze under the hoops.
Santa brought me a new tripod, some compatible SD cards and new batteries for my old video camera. Now I can make some better videos. When/if it stops raining today, I'll post a new vid of my winter garden and dig some more carrots, parsnips and turnips.
I can't wait til the seeds come out in our local stores. I'm going to start a lot of greens under the hoops asap.
We can usually find onion bulbs around the first of Feb and have planted them in the past without cover and they did well. UN-YONS.... Lots and lots of green UN-YONS. MAN.. I lack'em reel good.![bounce](https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_bounce.gif)

Re: Weather Warning - Middle South
Looks like our exceptionally warm winter is about to end at least temporarily. Be aware that the temp in my area is going below freezing this week. Tuesday night 30*F. Wed night 25*F, and right now forecast is 34*F for Thursday. So I guess I will have to add some more layers to my night time season extension efforts for my tomatoes.

They're talking mid-20's here for lows. My peaches, pears, & blueberries are going to be in trouble....
Re: Weather Warning - Middle South
Yeah, they keep revising the forecast downward. Now the lows will be (beginning Tues night) - 28,25,30. Yikes.AtlantaMarie wrote:They're talking mid-20's here for lows. My peaches, pears, & blueberries are going to be in trouble....
