I just came in the house asking myself if I'm the only one who walks around my SFGs talking to each and every square, giving them encouragement/praise and telling the empty squares not to worry, something will be planted soon.

Then I closed the door and thanked my cat for coming to greet me. Am I lonely? Or don't I have enough to do? DH isn't home. I must miss him!

I don't go for that automated sprinkler stuff in my sfg. I water by hand because it gives me something to do while I'm talking to my plants!

I also built a little water feature so they could listen to the mellow sound of water falling!

Of course I talk to my plants, and my garden fairies, and gnomes. The real toads that live there. My dogs, horse and goat too! I am not so much of a conversationalist with humans though. Guess I use all my words up with my plants! Do you talk to your plants/boxes? Icon_biggrin

you old softie!

I never intended to be a "Woman Who Talks to Plants"....but it happened!

Claire, my biggest conversational item with them is when they first appear, and I give them a big "Well, hi!"

Of COURSE I talk to my babies. Sometimes it seems almost a shame to pull/pick them. I always thank them when I do. I tell my seedlings they're looking great, tell my vines what a good job they're doing when those melons/squash/etc, are ripening, tell the peas/beans/herbs what pretty flowers they have. Is that wrong? Do you talk to your plants/boxes? Icon_smile

Guess I can join the club! I was in the garden yesterday with my 15 year old daughter and she gave me the funnies look and then told me that I am nicer to the plants then I am to her. Not really true but I will admit that I baby talk to the plants and seeds. I still have three kids at home but they are all too old for baby talk. I save that for my pets and plants.

I talk to all my pets, flora and fauna. We're currently hardening off tomato, pepper, and eggplant seedlings and when I put them on the deck this morning -- their first time in full morning light -- I found myself introducing them to the sun. Kinda like when you take your kid to kindergarten, y'know?

guilty. i guess its just a spill over from talking to my pet babies, i call them my green babies. maybe im supposed to have real babies? yeah, no maybe not.

Did anyone see that mythbusters episode where the experimented on plant growth with talking and music? No effect by the way, but i think it makes us feel better cause plants can't give ya any lip!

I dont know that I talk to the plants themselves, I do talk to myself though Do you talk to your plants/boxes? Icon_eek . My garden is my sanctuary from everything else so no one else is there so I can talk freely and not be interrupted I guess. My step mom who I adore used to play classical music for her house plants while she was at work, on very low just so you could hear it. I loved coming home from school to hear Mozart or Beethoven. Oh !! I did talk to the Lemon Basil cutting, it had fallen out of its container of water. Just encouraged it and said you will be alright. I water each plant with the wand, I like walking around the beds as it is and I find it keeps me level. I'm want to make a sign for my garden that says "The Victory Garden". Where I win battles of every sort ( You know Mom battles on how should I change this for that child, etc ) and then I think to when they had their Victory Gardens or War Gardens they won the battle on the home front by supplying the needs of their family and neighbors. And now that I am more aware of "do I talk to my plants" I will see how much really I do talk to them. Silly me I was making it all about me in that garden just talking to myself !!

Having a blast with her first SFG

All of them. Indoors and outdoors! I inspect each and every plant and square. I count every new seed that sprouts and every blossom or veggie that appears as I water every morning and sometimes I just go out to check again during the day and give a little incouraging here and there. One thing I like about my dog (ZeeZee, a Shih Tzu) and my plants is that they don't argue, whine, ask for money or wreck my car. Do you talk to your plants/boxes? Icon_flower Who can ask for more?

I'm not sure why, but I just realized that although I talk to the trees in my orchard, - "Hey, those are beautiful blossoms, Sour Plum!" "Hang in there, Granny Smith," - I don't talk to my garden plants as much as I sing to them. (Poor dears, and they still grow in spite of it.) I often catch myself singing David Mallett's "The Garden Song"...Inch by inch, row by row, gonna make this garden grow...

Now that I think about it, maybe that's why some of my seeds didn't come up. Maybe the poor carrots were traumatized by the line (from the John Denver version) about the "old crow watchin' hungrily from his perch in yonder tree".

Hmmm, maybe I need to rethink my choice of song. At the very least the first line of this one needs to be changed to "Foot by foot, box by box..." I think I'll go to the herb garden and ask the sage plant. It always seems to have words of wisdom for me.
