At least all this snow is good for something else beside watering the gardens:

Lemon snow ice cream is delicious! 4-5 cups (clean!!) snow, 1 c milk or cream, 1/2 c sugar, 1-2 t lemon (vanilla) extract, stir and serve immediately. Yum!

I used vanilla instead of lemon, almond milk in place of cream, stevia in place of sugar.

I love my snow cream. Favorite of my childhood and of my kids. We didn't always get that much snow, so it was a treat. As soon as it started snowing my kids would get my old enamel roasting pan, top and bottom and set it out to catch snow.

Snow cream looks great. Will have to try that with the next snow storm. Been out of touch during the holidays. Hoping everyone had wonderful holidays. Wishing a happy and healthy 2014 to all. Looking forward to spring and missing the scent of warm earth.

Uh oh. I have been waiting all year to order Fedco's potato onions in the spring, and now I find out they won't be offering potato onions this spring!

Does anyone know another spring source for potato onions?

I don't know why these are so hard to get. They are the perennials, self-multiplying, and supposedly they are THE onion that the early settlers used. I'm really anxious to try them.

No.....! I will not survive until September without potato onions.

If they're such a great onion (and everyone seems to be enamored with them) then why aren't there more suppliers? Especially if they multiply all by themselves.

Well, maybe this is a business opportunity. Growing potato onions to sell. Obviously there is a shortage in the marketplace.

I'm still not giving up hope for a spring find somewhere.....

Yeah camprn, I emailed Fedco this morning and they said no. I re-emailed them and asked them why, interested in a response.

They are probably sold out. I hope it wasn't crop failure. Besides I think it's a fall planted crop.

I really hope I hear a response from them about why they are not offering the potato onions this spring. The reason I have been waiting until spring is that spring is when Fedco sells theirs, and they are listed in the tubers catalog, but the entry states: See our website for possible availability. When I couldn't find them on the website, I emailed them, and the response was: We will not be offering potato onions this year.

WHHHHAAAAAAA.

And yeah again, that link provides multiplier onions, and I do have a few of those plants, but they're not bona fide potato onions, which sound dreamy. So why, why, why, and I still say this is a good business opportunity to sell these if they are so hard to find. How hard can they be to grow?

Yeah, but spring is the time of year when Fedco sells them, and that's where I was really hoping to get them from.

I'll look around and see if there are other suppliers - if Fedco sells in spring, maybe someone else does too.

Just wish they would elaborate on why there are no potato onions this year.

LOL, yes, I wonder if you can order them now for september delivery. I bet it's a good business to be in, the multiplying onions thing.

Speaking of onions, at year end I pulled my little sets that never grew big so I could plant them this year. They are sprouting now in the basement in their airy net bag.
Any suggestions?

Hang on tight to them, if you can put them in a colder place until the ground can be worked (April in your location) you can replant them and get onions this coming season. Feed them well in their early growing stage.
