Fried Green Tomatoes
Here is my family's simple recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes, that has been handed down through the generations.
4-6 Large Green Tomatoes
1 & 1/2 cup Flour
1 & 1/2 cup Corn Meal
Salt
Pepper
Butter or Butter Flavored Crisco.
Add enough butter or crisco to just cover the bottom of an electric skillet and set to 375. I usually start with 1 tbs Crisco then add 4 pats of butter after each batch. Wash and slice tomatoes. Mix Flour, Meal, Salt & Pepper to taste, in a shallow bowl, or 1 gal zip bag. Bags work well for less clean up. Mix well. Place 6-8 slices of tomatoes, depending on size, into the flour mixture and coat well. Some people dip in beaten egg first, but I don't. Place in pan and fry until brown on one side. Turn only once, to keep crispy batter from coming off. I usually have 4 or 5 batches to feed my crew, who are standing in line, waiting for the next pan full to get done.

Re: Fried Green Tomatoes
Oh yum!! Cooked in butter! I just made my first ever fried green tomatoes this weekend and I think they were under seasoned, I liked them but the kids and hubby weren't crazy about them. I will try this next time!
