I just got mine last week, I love it!

I tried the recipie on page 160 for roasted green tomato's with onion & garlic & balsamic dressing with feta, except I used cherry tomatos instead of full size ones.

I didn't mind it but I would like to try it again with full size tomato's.

I've never eaten a green tomato in my life before!

Mel's new Cookbook Empty Fried Green Tomatoes

Post  ander217 7/15/2010, 8:04 am

Aussie Girl, fried green tomatoes are a staple food of summer in the American South. After we've had our fill of fresh ripe tomatoes, we select a large green tomato just before it begins to show color. Slice it, roll it in cornmeal, sprinkle with a little salt, and fry until golden brown in a skillet with a little grease or oil. Flip, and brown the other side. Drain on paper towels.

Lots of people serve them with milk gravy.

We also eat a lot of green tomato pickles. They're really good with beans or fried catfish.
