Your pictorial made it look easy! Nice job. New Drip Irrigation System. 3170584802

Do you have to worry about winter freezing temps? If so, how will you handle the irrigation lines? Remove them, blow them out, or let them remain in place?

Boffer, it really wasn't too bad to install, I took my time and tried to be methodical. As far as the winter weather, I am not overly concerned living in North Texas our winters are not that severe. I may take the two main line ends and open them up and drain the system if it looks like it may freeze for more than a few nights.

Very nice. I recently installed a similar system... I tried a soaker hose, was not happy with it... So I got a kit similar to that one.

The best thing I ever did for our SFG was to add a drip irrigation system. We doubled the size of our garden this winter to about 350 sq ft. Having the irrigation system on timers has stopped my tomatoes from splitting and allowed me to spend more time caring for the babies that I grew from seed this year. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my irrigation system!!

You've inspired me to inspire my husband to help with this project! Silly me, I was thinking it would be impossible to install the irrigation while plants were already growing. My plan was to wait until winter, but not anymore! I see Home Depot has this kit for $30. How much of your sfg did that cover? It says it's 50 ft, but I'm not really sure how many kits I need to buy. Is it just around the perimeter or is there hose running down the middle too? I have 2 4x10 beds and 2 4x8 beds.

New Drip Irrigation System. Empty Dripworks

Post  mrwes40 6/1/2013, 9:37 am

I just purchased and installed an irrigation system from Drip Works for six 4x4 boxes. The install took me about an hour and is virtually tooless. Everything I needed came with the kit. I'm very happy with the product, and the only Con was it should have come with more hold-down stakes. I ended up buying some additional ones from Amazon dot com.

I hardly used any stakes, I attached most of the lines with zip ties to my grid.

I have a 4x8 and I ran the 1/2" main lines down the 8' length and then the 1/4" lines perpendicular to those. I still have enough left over to outfit my next 4x8 next year when I get it started. I'll just need to pick up a few additional end caps and drip ends.

I like to remove my grids before winter, makes adding soil amendments easier to mix in. I then re-install them in early spring. Your system is nice and you did a very clean install.

What kind of watering schedule are you planning?

New Drip Irrigation System. Empty One of the BEST threads

Post  kauairosina 3/17/2014, 6:07 pm

Thank you for such great pictures.  I have shown these to my grandson who will be building the boxes and installing these.

I had figured we would hand water the SF beds but then comes a long weekend when we will not be home and our gardens are at a critical state and no certain way to be sure they get watered properly.

The rest of the garden is on irrigation and now we will be able to have the boxes set up.

This Forum over and over shows its value.  I am ever so grateful.

The beautiful set up in this Topic was by Artistic Foodie.

I have a simple one at each box.  The 1/4" drip tubing is from DripWorks.com.  The drippers are every 6" of line.

New Drip Irrigation System. Empty Drip works

Post  LilGreenNewbie 3/18/2014, 6:27 pm

Drip works is a great site. It was referred to me a few months back.. i bought a drip kit that my brother set up for my moms garden. It was pretty easy and he had no problems. They have other irrigation items as well. I am looking at a mist kit for my greenhouse.
