Yellow Straight Neck Squash vine or bush?
I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is a vine or a bush. I'm reading in the SFG book that vine squash doesn't need as much room and I can trellis, but that the bush type needs 9 square feet. Then I searched for this type of plant that I bought today and I found a site that says: "Our Early Prolific Straightneck seed sets smooth, yellow fruits on bush vines that won't run all over the garden." Still not sure if this is a vine or a bush and how much room I should allow for it.

Mature spread on the plant is about 6'-8'. It doesnt send out little vining parts that allow the plant to grasp (tendrils) onto any kind of support, so it does need plenty of room. Some folks have tried staking, but that requires a bit of management and the plant still needs pleanty of room.

I grew this last year and gave it 4 squares with intent on trellising. It was a lot of work and I found it best to use strips of t-shirts to tie it to the trellis instead of trying to weave it through netting. Start early and keep with it....I broke so many leaves off by accident but still managed to get several squash before the evil squash bugs took over. I'm not sure how much room it would've taken up had it made it the full season though.
