FAIL: Romaine, Arugula, Spinach, Onions, Tomatoes (brandywine)

I am wondering why my bell peppers and jalepenos made it and are thriving, but my tomatoes and onions died within 3 weeks and the arugula, romaine and spinach are on their way out. Could it be lack of sun? But then wouldnt the greens have made it? I'm so confused.

If the weather has been warm, that might be your answer(I'm ignorant of NC weather). Arugula, romaine and spinach are all cool season crops. All peppers are warm season crops. My lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. have all bolted before it's time for me to plant tomatoes and peppers. Brandywine tomatoes are heirloom tomatoes. Your mileage will vary when it comes to heirlooms, especially heirlooms that aren't specifically grown in your area.

Take a look on your AgCenter website(cooperative extension), they usually have a list of what to plant and when.

I did all of mine indoors and in containers since I am moving in June and can't transplant till then. I think I moved them around too much between outside and in and should have had them in sun, in a window inside the whole time. It was too much for em I think. Trying again with new seeds in jiffy cups on my sill since the herbs and cherry tomatoes did so well that way.

Do you mean you had them in and out of the house? You only need to bring the seedlings outside when you are getting ready to transplant them outside in which you do a hardening off process. I killed my orchid last year leaving it in my unheated mudroom in the winter. Growing plants is definitely a learning process.

I grew seeds in window light before, but they got too leggy. This is my first year growing seeds under shop lights and they're doing fantastic. If you had your seedlings outside, the cold could have damaged them or it could be insufficient light.
