"Cooked" Wood?
Has anyone heard of pressure cooked wood?
I just received a call from a guy who sells hardwood and he asked if I'd ever heard of cooked wood. No, I haven't.
He says that they take poplar and ash and put it in a kiln at 400 degrees, remove the oxygen and do this for two weeks. The wood is then resistant to moisture and pests and there are NO chemicals involved.
SOOOOO I was wondering if anyone has heard about this or used it?
Thanks,
Kim

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

I think all of the 'pressure treated' is 'cooked' in huge pressure chambers where the chemicals are driven into the wood under pressure.
And then there is kiln dried. Don't know if it's cooked though.
And then there's this, mentions vacutherm dryer.

This is put under pressure to drive the oxygen out but NOT treated with chemicals. Apparently it's a fairly new technique.
