Re: Urine: the ultimate 'organic' fertiliser?
I have read a study that was published in the Mother Earth news where they compared human urine to two other liquid fertilizers and the human urine won...
It does seem a shame that it just goes down the drain so to speak.

Urine is a known good compost activator. see these previous threads for some good discussion and information on the matter.

Re: Urine: the ultimate 'organic' fertiliser?
I use some in my compost. I figure it is a compost activator, adds nutrients and will be composted for a couple of months so should be no problem.

The way I see it, it is nitrogen, that is all. So I have used it for my basil and spinach, BIG nitrogen users.
But I am careful who I tell that to.

Get a bucket and do it yourself
I usually wait until after dark before I visit my pile (saves a lil water, too)

Oh...oh wow....I just brought in some buckets today that have frozen water in them at the moment. Wasn't sure what I was going to do with them. Wish they were round and not rectangle. This'll be a challenge, in more ways than one. Wish I drank beer.
Can you pour it on even tho the compost pile is frozen?

When I have no house guests, I keep the watering can in the bathroom(shower to be exact). I gets filled up with that cold water when I turn the shower on, then gets put in the garden(but mostly on the compost pile). My morning pot of coffee gets completely recycled.

I still don't know what to say. But you have got me to thinking with the part of saving water. I mean we are on rural water here so it does cost and to think that I could save a little there,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Just like money in the bank! Not sure my wife would see it that way though.

unmutual, that is exactly what I do..... of course when we do not have company. I have this neighbour who seems to watch everything we do...... I always wonder if he wonders why I keep the fertilizer in the houseWhen I have no house guests, I keep the watering can in the bathroom(shower to be exact).

Re: Urine: the ultimate 'organic' fertiliser?
I would think that if your pile has a frozen layer, then break some holes and then pour it so it goes into the pile. You wouldn't want to waste it!CapeCoddess wrote:Can you pour it on even tho the compost pile is frozen?

Maybe you should tell them where your fertilizer comes from and offer them some, lol! You know, since they are so interested in what you are doing . . .GWN wrote: unmutual, that is exactly what I do..... of course when we do not have company. Me, too, except I have a bucket in there. I use the shower water for watering houseplants and seedlings, and for outside watering before the hoses are brought out.
I still haven't been able to use it 'otherwise' yet , but I think I have a good set up once the ice in the bucket has melted. Does this look about right?

Lol, I see you recycle the cat litter containers too(my daughter has a cat and I get the buckets...one can never have enough buckets!). Now that's a lot of recycling going on in the bathtub.
