Questions on Mel's Mix

I just pulled the last bell peppers and pulled up all the plants. The roots were in large balls of tiny webbed roots. I shook all the MM out but in the process a lot of the tiny roots were shook off also. Will this compromise the MM or do I have to dig them out? Also, how often does the MM need to be updated if at all?

According to an email I got from the Stump Mel questions, you replace Mels Mix about every 10 years or so. Just add good compost to the squares to give the plants something to eat until then.

The roots will rot and add to the mix in the garden. You can add your compost to your mix now and prep the bed, or wait until spring then add the compost and prep for sowing/planting.

I think I would recharge the MM when I redo the box, in my case because I used simple untreated pine boards, every 4-5 years. What a Face
