A friend was telling me about a variety of field pea called 21 peas. They are similar to purple hull but with extra long pods (hence the name). He lost his seed stock so I thought I'd inquire to see if anyone knows of these and where I might get some seed. No luck in searching for the same.

I have taken this as a Googling challenge, and have spent a couple of evenings looking. The closest I have come so far is this. Could it be an asparagus bean?

I tried a different search engine, and came up with this one:

Red Ripper Peas - Heirloom variety

(From the
Southern Seed Legacy project)

Oh, thank you very much. I guess I should have posted an "I found them" message, but so much time had gone by with no response that I forgot. They are actually called "21 peas", and are a purple hull variety. The seed looks similar to the red ripper you posted on, so they might be siblings. I found them at Seed Savers Exchange. Seed savers has them in their seed vault and doesn't sell them, but a member had some to share. They are happily growing in 4 squares and are just beginning to climb the trellis.
