My poor son and his wife (I call him DC Tim & Janette) have a large garden plot approx. 6 x 15' in an organic community garden. Last yr their garden did well considering it was their 1st time. This yr they are having alot of difficulty with their tomato and pepper plants. Someone from the community garden (farmer) told them it looks as though they have tomato curly leaf virus and that someone else in the garden had the same problem. He said they were too sickly to treat and to take them out and destroy them, which they did. They then replaced them with another set of tom and pepper plants but again those are looking the same! Is there anything they can do? Suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sorry to hear that. This is my first hear with the sfg and I too have had yellow tomato plants and pepper plants. I believe I overwatered in the begining and the soil won't dry even on hot days. I have a feeling it's root rot. I replanted tomatoes and they are doing much better. The peppers still look yellow stunted and sickly. Are you watering alot or is the soil very damp below the surface?

They were told it is caused by whiteflies and not cureable. The leaves curl up and the plants become stunted. The whiteflies cause the virus.

But I am glad your plants are doing well.

I guess my question would be who was the person (farmer) who told them what was wrong with the plants. Is this farmer the over see'er of the community garden? Or just another member? I mean what's done is done now, but there are lot's of reasons tomatoes and peppers may look sickly but not all the reasons are disease related.

I told them the same thing - it could just be due to the weather and maybe they are not watering enough.

I am glad you stated what I had previously stated - thanks for the support.
