Is anything wrong with my tomato plant
Hi everyone...I'm new to SFG and started up our garden this year. This is one of our tomato plants: Cosmonaut Volkov (Heirloom Determinate) that I bought as a plant from Territorial Seed Company and planted about 3-4 weeks ago.
Noticed the lower leaves with this color and wanted to know if it's normal or if I have some type of disease...none of our other tomato plants have this. I planted it with the Dr. Earth Organic 5 Tomato, Vegetable, & Herb Fertilizer & Crushed Oyster Shells, & Epsom Salts.
Any help is appreciated! The temperature in the Seattle area has been in the high 50's at night to mid 60's in the day...we've hit 70's 3-4 times this month...mostly rain. I'm hoping the tomato plants can take off soon when it warms up!

I think your tomatos are just cold. I understand that purple color is because the cold doesn't allow the needed nutrient to be absorbed. Read it on the forum somewhere.

Kay,
Thanks...wouldn't to cold affect my other tomato plants as well? They all seem fine with none of the "purple" on the leaves.

Maybe phosphorus deficiency. LINK the rest of the plant looks good so maybe you have overcome the deficiency.

Camprn,
Thanks for the link! It sounds like it could be a P deficiency. Can one square be deficient while the adjacent square be fine?

Hmmm... if there was a phosphorus deficiency I would think that the rest of the plant would be showing the symptoms as well and it is not. Perhaps, it is just time to take the purple leaf stems off and enjoy the healthy looking foliage. But that's just me...

Re: Is anything wrong with my tomato plant
It looks like phosphorus deficiency to me as well, which causes the lower leaves to turn purplish. If that is your only tomato plant of that variety it could be why you only see it on the one. That variety could be a little less cold tolerant than the others, or it just could be more sensitive to phosphorus levels than your other tomato varieties. Or, like my first year SFG's, you could have pockets of mix that are not truly mixed well! This year when I put in my compost I was shocked at how many pockets of identifiable peat I turned up! Bad me!

Thanks for everyone's help. I added some more phosphorus to the mix...liquid bloom (organic) that was 0-10-10. We'll see if it helps!
