So, my spring stuff has all peaked, bolted, or been pulled, and it's too early for the fall planting. The tomatoes look great, but have stopped flowering for now. The squash and zukes are producing plenty. Peppers are beginning to produce, as are the bush beans. In the meantime, I have a bunch of squares sitting empty, longing to bring forth new produce!

What are you (or should I be) planting during the heat of the summer? I've held off on my pole beans, following Squash's advice, in order to avoid the Japanese beetles, and I will be planting them soon. Other than that, what would make a good crop between now and the fall?

Wondering the same thing, I was thinking more carrots and radishes, since underground shouldn't be affected as above the ground is by the heat of summer, and they're near-ready to pick. I'm also going to take a chance on lettuce; forgot to plant it early, (my other half has a fair amount in his garden, probably ready to bolt). (I'm also taking a trip to the organic farmstand this afternoon, see what they have left for peppers and eggplant "seedlings" to fill in some squares.)

Last week I planted watermelon and cantaloupe. Today I planted more romaine and other lettuces under cover. I'm going to plant some bunching onions under cover as soon as I harvest more finished romaine, and will also plant more carrots and radishes.
Altho I have about 4 squares of radishes going right now...they just keep going and going and going. Crazy things... What to plant in the heat of summer? 53366

I planted a couple of basil plants. Now I know it is late but am going to let them bolt and get the seeds from them.
