Mulberry inquiry

I swear as soon as I can I will get a picture of the trees in my yard!

I'm a little confused.. I have a couple of trees that are supposed to be fruitless mulberry. Do these produce little green/yellowish berries? Or is this something different? Can we eat the berries?

Even fruitless or flowering trees will put on fruit occasionaly. If it is a mulberry, it will get a small green berry on, which will change color as they get ripe. Ours turn from green, to red then to purple when ripe. The green is real small, it gets bigger and bigger til it turns purple. I can get a pic in the morning, ours have fruit on now.

You can eat Mulberries if the birds don't beat ya to them! They don't have as strong a flavor as a blackberry.

Some of the best plums come off a flowering plum, which is a sugar plum, about 1 inch accross and sort of pink.

Those are not mullberries. Mullberries can be white but they look like this(note the leaves are evwen different from what you posted):

Mulberries are a compound fruit more like a blackberry. These might be a gooseberry but those seem to have a slight vertical stripe. Actually these look to me like a black walnut, which I have growing in my yard. They would be about 2" in diameter, and if that is what it is, wear rubber gloves when you pick them up, as they will stain your hands.

The picture did not come up before I posted before. The picture is not a Mulberry!!

If it is supposed to be a fruitless tree, then that is probably the seed. I'd take a small part of the limb, with leaves and the (seed or fruit) down to the county extension service and let them tell you what it is. I would not try eating til you find out exactly what it is!!

Wrong leaves then for Black walnut.

Is it a fruit or nut? I thought Loquat but am not sure.

They are used for you guessed it laundry soap. Have you ever had your mouth soaped out before.

ohh I wish I could take a pic or two of the tree. Sad

It'd make it easier but the berries look nothing like the mulberries...
