White Mulberry Tree???
When we went over to the new house this morning, we discovered the walkway was covered in squishy little white berries. I came home, grabbed the camera, took some pics, did a web search, and came up with "white mulberry." We each tasted just one -- in case that's not what it is -- and they were super sweet and juicy. I'm really hoping that's what it is, cuz the tree is still loaded -- even after dropping at least a thousand of the little white gems. ID, please.
The tree is at least 20' tall.
The berries are tiny -- about half the size of a good blackberry.

Re: White Mulberry Tree???
yes, it is a white mulberry! The size of the fruit depends a lot on the weather.
We found it you take a flat sheet or a tarp and spread on ground under tree, then gently shake the limbs, the ripe berries will fall off. They are not good if not ripe.
I put them in freezer bags til I get enough and or get time to make jam. Hope we get enough, for the squirrels and woodpeckers just love them.

Re: White Mulberry Tree???
Thank you all! I will be over there with my flat sheet this morning. I can't wait to harvest those little sweeties.
I think this forum has a poldergeist. In my original post, there's a little angry face after one of the pics. I have no idea how it got there.

Re: White Mulberry Tree???
Hubby got all excited over the mulberries for his stoopid chickens! So, we cut a deal -- any that I miss and they hit the ground, he can gather for his goofy yard birds. Any I can harvest are strictly for human consumption. So far, he's the winner. He got over a pint this morning, which means that's about what we lost yesterday, before I knew any better. I'll let you know what Katie and I bring in, later.

When I was in elementary school, we live at a house with a purple mulberry tree. I would hang all the wash out to dry on the clothes line and something would get bombed with purple pooh. Back into the house to wash out the pooh and back out to the line to dry again.Scorpio Rising wrote:Oh wow, we had a red (or purple) mulberry tree at our old house! Those berries are so delicious! Re: White Mulberry Tree???
We have experienced a purple bombing many times. It usually is confined to the driveway and front part of property. I'm not sure what does it or what is eaten to make it happen.

Re: White Mulberry Tree???
I remember years ago having a similar problem with red/purple berries and matching bird poop. Also, olive trees make a gawdawful mess. Thankfully, we don't have either problem, here.trolleydriver wrote:We have experienced a purple bombing many times. It usually is confined to the driveway and front part of property. (Got another pint of berrites this morning.)

What a great - and tasty! - find on your new property. I don't think I've ever had a mulberry... I think I'm experiencing mulber-envy

They're very sweet and slightly perfumy. They don't have the personality of a strawberry, but they also don't have hard seeds like a blackberry.BlackjackWidow wrote:What a great - and tasty! - find on your new property. I don't think I've ever had a mulberry... I think I'm experiencing mulber-envy
