Compost Questions
I got the "go ahead" to start another compost pile on the ground. Soooo...
My husband doesn't think I need to contain it. JUst put things in a pile on the ground and move from side to side? Are sides necessary or just preference.
I have some cardboard and some shredded paper and can get my hands on grass clippings. I have a bunch of Alpaca poo and my kitchen scraps. It will be rather small until I can build it up. It won't start big. So I had better be patient I have a tumbler that I am not putting any more in finished it off with poo last night. It is not heating yet and is discouraging. I am hoping poo helps.
The alpaca poo I got has a ton of roly poly's is that a problem or normal or a normal problem?
Thank you for letting me ramble on Until next time ( and I am sure there will be a next time) I am forever grateful.

Re: Compost Questions
I do piles right on the ground with no issues. There's nothing that says you have to have in contained. In fact I prefer that method to using my tumbler. You will however have to have a certain amount of mass to generate heat and to really get the compost cooking. 3x3x3 Good Luck
I am my gardens worst enemy.

Re: Compost Questions
Mine have always been on the ground. But since they are mostly scrub oak leaves it takes a year for them to be ready to use in the garden. So I always have 2 piles going, 1 for using and 1 that's cooking and constantly beeing added to - kitchen scraps, grass, garden debris, goose poop, etc. This photo is of my cooking pile made into 2 piles as it was getting too big.
