I've been plagued with problems in my strawberries.

Netting does not help with slugs or milipedes!

Netting does keep out the birds.

Netting helps with this, which I was not expecting! It's not dead yet. I'm just glad that I did not just stick my hand in the bed!

Yep. I love my netting. Caught a rattler last year and several lizards this year. It also keeps the turkeys away!!What a Face

I haven't used bird netting yet. Lizards and snakes(as long as they are not too close to me) are good in the garden, except for poisonous ones like rattlesnakes. I also would not want birds to get caught in it.

My daughter would be out there releasing that snake.

Garden snakes and red racers are welcome in my garden, as are lizards.

Ohh gosh! I have bird netting on a cage I built around my strawberries. I haven't caught anything in it yet, but I'm thinking I'm going to have to replace it with something else after seeing this picture! I don't like any critters in the garden, even if they aren't there for a snack, or if they eat the mice. I'd have a heart attack if I found this in my garden!

This is the only way I like to find the rattlers in our garden! We have not had any birds get caught in 3 years. Our lizards are not the cute little blue bellies. We call them alligator lizards and they are very agressive. Glad to have anything that will deter them. Pros/cons of bird netting! 43549

On a side note, the net does not seem to bother our toads...have never found one caught in the net but there are plenty in the garden. Laughing

I can't believe the timing of this thread! I heard of birds getting caught, now snakes. Finally planted the third blueberry bush this morning and wrestled more with the bird netting. Wrapped the netting around each bush and 2 stakes. Attached the 2 ends with twist ties. And drove in a couple of tent stakes at the bottom. Hope it is functional for now. Seems there should be some way to make it look nicer? Anyone?

I've had it on for a couple months and the birds know, they land on the boards and know they cannot get thru. The snake was too heavy and he could not slither accross it. I did almost have a heart attack! I was perturbed cause the netting was askew.I thought 'someone of the 2 legged kind' had been in my garden I tried to straighten it out, and then I saw it! oops, time to go in the house.

It's rattler season here where I live, so hopefully no one gets caught in the netting! I have to use it though - anything that isn't covered is getting dug in by a squirrel (or several). My 4x4 beds are totally enclosed and I have to make sure there are no gaps. Looks like this weekend I'll be making cages for some of the stuff outside of the beds. My tomato cages and basil are completely enclosed with tulle - good thing tomatoes are self-pollinating. Sad
