The front flower box has a mix of Browallia, Pentas, Salvia, and Cosmos. The brick surrounding the garden, and holding down my deer netting, has two different types of Marigold and Nasturtium planted in every-other hole - an idea I got from this forum. The flowers are starting to bush out and get pretty.

I'm loving my new garden! In a couple weeks I'm planning on starting more lettuce, spinach, and radish for a fall crop. I've never planted "spring" seeds in the fall before, but this forum has inspired me! We eat a lot of greens (I blend green smoothies) so having more out of the garden will be awesome!

You might want to plant some carrots, celery, and kale, because they all grow well with fall and a fantastic blended in a smoothy!

Added more pictures on my facebook page. I set security to "public" so you should be able to see them. Of course I wouldn't mind more gardeners as "friends" either Smile

I've planted some fall greens, and plan to plant more every couple weeks. My plan is to do a cover for one square and just see how far I can push this season! It nearly makes me as excited as in the Spring! You folk have been very inspiring for me!

thanks

Check out the varieties that have caught Better Homes and Gardens deputy garden editor Eric Liskey's eye.

OOOOOOOoooh! I love that coleus 'Smallwood', so pretty. I have been thinking I would like to get some northern variety roses. I may look into some of those when I am doing some research this winter.

I really like that Fire Zinnia too.

I've been under the weather this week, and last night's frost caught me with my dome down. I still harvested this morning - though it was a little crisp - and had enough spinach and kale for a birthday smoothie! I never would have believed I could be eating out of my garden on my birthday!!!! Holy cow! What a wonderful first year!

Fantastic, Darci! And Happy Birthday! That smoothie should help you feel better with all those vitamins and such in it...and organic taboot. What a great gift to give yourself.

I'm envious of your spinach. I can't get it to grow for me. Sad

Your garden is wonderful. Will you be extending the season under cover?

Thank you CC! I built a PVC dome over one 4X4 box and have been covering it with thick plastic at night. On really cold nights I've stuck a pint bottle of hot water in the center before sealing it up! We've had quite a few hard frosts already so the fact I'm still able to eat fresh from my garden amazes me! We're going into freezing temps again starting tomorrow. Every day could be my last day of the 2012 garden...but what a season!

Just had to say I was still picking spinach in December!! The 2012 season was very good to me. New garden for 2012 - Page 2 3170584802

Now we have 15 inches of snow on the ground. Time to dream of next year...and maybe make a cold-frame in the garage to get a jump on the spring!
