Another benefit of tulle
This year for the first time I am using tulle as a barrier against insects. Right now I have it just lying on top of my garden while I build the hoops. It has already managed to obstruct pests much larger than I had imagined, however!
Yesterday I noticed my tulle in one small spot was wadded up, wrinkled, and stained green, as if it had been crushed in a fist around some of the underlying plants. It was all a mystery to me until I found cow hoof prints beside the garden. Apparently, a calf had escaped from the neighboring farm, and being tempted by the smell of the delicious salad bar growing in the SFG, decided to take a bite. Must have been surprised by the taste of that tulle! Only one spot showed minor damage in the tulle, and I couldn't see any evidence of damage to the plants! One bite seems to have been enough. I did find some hoof prints in another (uncovered) bed, but no other evidence of attempts to sample the garden.

Sounds like tulle defends against pesky critters of all sizes.
