Using Schefflera for Trellis Pyramid?

I'm looking to build a pyramid trellis for my cukes to climb. I have a Schefflera (Octupus plant) growing in the yard that I'm pruning and has several large branches that will work well to build the trellis.
I've also heard that Schefflera can be irritaing to people's skin or toxic depending on species but can't find any reall information on it's toxicity.
Any reason not to build the trellis from the branches?
