Growing Boxes in San Diego
First off, I have not read the book carefully--returned it to the library and am awaiting my copy which should come next week. That said, I was in a nursery today and saw some material growing boxes. They look like a fabric box, with a bottom. They had planted carrots, radishes, tomatoes, etc. Now, would something like that work in Mel's system with Mel's Mix? It looks really easy--nothing to build. And for tabletop gardening it seems to be it would work to. Any input? I am just learning.

Re: Growing Boxes in San Diego
I think I know what you are talking about - it sounds like the stuff that grow-bags are made out of. My only major concern would be longevity. But if you need something that can be emptied and moved easily, or if they are less expensive to start out for you than building boxes for seeing if you really like the method, no reason not to try!

Re: Growing Boxes in San Diego
My daughter gave me one of the fabric salad sacks for Christmas. I find the sides bulge out and the whole thing is sort of squashed. But lettuce and radishes are growing well.
