Go to the VIDEO about 3/4 of the way down the page.

Are these the aluminum panels used for a carport roof?

It looks like 36" steel roofing to me. 26-30 gauge. Wood could be used for the top and bottom rails.

I have the tools and experience to cut the roofing. It still takes lots of swearing and Band-Aids to work with the stuff!

Interesting Raised Bed Empty Only Available in Australia?

Post  rachuella 4/9/2012, 3:49 pm

I tried to find these for sale in America and couldn't find anything beyond a website in Australia. Seems like it would be a really easy, light-weight option. Wonder how hot that metal would get here in TX though!

I'm wondering about the vinyl equivalent - better for the fingers.

I know that stuff in the steel version as " Plastisol profiled steel sheet for roof's and walls .

It is steel sheet /strip that's had sprayed plastic particles heat baked on & been run through a set of shaping rollers .

The steel sheet is usually galvanized , the inside of the sheet can be sprayed in a very hard wearing polymer coat .. The whole sheets are often given a 30 yr life when on a roof . The width can be as little as three inches wide by the length of a sheet or roll of plastisol , you just ask for your dimensions when placing the order.

Seeing they are putting acids /alkalines against it by way of the bed contents it may /may not be treated correctly and will only last six or seven years .

I took my old plastisol steel up & over garage door apart to get four sections just over 2 feet high & seven foot long to make a manure bin .. it rusted through at the slightest scratch mark in five years despite being galvanized and polymer coated both sides.

Aluminium sheets so processed will like as not have an even shorter life when in contact with the damp soil/growth medium unless specially coated .

Now that brings me to marine grade stainless steel made to the same designs .... and corretly riveted or fixed with high grade stainless steel nuts & bolts .. ideal for a 20 yr old to start ANSFG and can be taken apart and moved around the world.. should last thirty or more years.

It would look classy in a garden with modern art and vibrant colours

I had some shelving (300 mtrs of 5 mtr lengths ) made by a roof profile manufacturing company with folded & square fold over edges and a couple of three inch wide one inch high raised profiles to give rigidity but manufactures in 0.5 mm stainless , it was only a wee bit more expensive than the mild steel plastisol sheeting , I've never thought of having it it as side wall for SFg till now .
