Loving all the BIG STUFF!

About the only big thing in my garden at the moment is the broccoli plant which is taller than my lemon tree. It's only a small lemon tree but still....

The regular looking single tomatoes that grew from the plant were the tomatoes I took to the fair, they were a nice big size, nice and round, and when the fair was over we ate them, and they tasted very good!!!

This ugly one had something eating on it, so I went ahead and picked it, it is really ripe in some parts of it, and not so ripe in other places, but the biggest part is the ripest, so I'm going to save the seeds, it was grown from a world record variety, so there is always a chance I might get a really big one next year, I think it did really good considering the really long high temps and drought weather we had this year.

Will have to see if it's still standing this morning after the high winds we had yesterday, even with a stake it was blowing over yesterday afternoon! Hmm, just looked out the window and it still looks a tad breezy today. Not sure I want to venture out there today, I'd rather stay inside and be warm!

Well it was a bit flattened this morning but I restaked it and it's still upright now and the wind is just as bad today as it was yesterday!

I couldn't hold the tape measure and take a pic at the same time but it's nearly a metre tall (that's 3'3" for you non-metric people). My other broccoli which was planted a month later is half the height, guess March was still a bit hot for an outdoor start!

The poor lemon tree is getting swamped by the leaves and the Carrot Week carrots behind it are really struggling as it blocks all of their sun!

Whats your SFG box made of? It looks different, looks like it's some kind of metal box. Did you make it yourself or buy it?

Thanks Josh, the box is metal, it's a kit made by Hills Industries who also make the Hills Hoist washing line. I have two of them set up and I have another two in the shed that I'm hoping to get set up before spring planting.

Josh and Rose,

I think your "Uglies" are Great. Always enjoy seeing what comes out of other gardens -- always find it entertaining whether its good, bad or has a touch of the uglies.

One of my 2 pumpkin vines has mutated. The leaves changed from normal pumpkin leaves to deeply indented watermelon type leaves. And the vine continues to stay that way. The fruit is lighter color than the other true pumpkin vine and the fruit's been growing real fast. Perhaps its a water-kin or a pum-melon ?

All of them? I am thankful that my favorite garden/greenhouse owner steered me to these wonderful toms. MM is the best. Never have had this much success before.

I have pics from June, July and now. The vines are over the top of the trellis when in June they were not even half way. Amazing. I have recruited at least 2 people and hopefully I can convince them to try the SFG method. They are both "older" like me and are tired of the row gardens they have. One even told me that she has let the garden go to weeds because it is just too much for her to take care of. Told her to get the book and start planning for next year. She truly needs to come here and start reading too.

Put as many of them in the BIG STUFF album that you want, they are all great looking, but make sure you at least get your biggest one in there.

+1 And adding in tabletops make it so I can overcome my poor aching back and knees.
