Hello All,

I am going to make my first 4x4 box this week which is not a problem. I am most concerned about getting my vegetable choices optimized. Here is what I have in mind.

- green onions
- red onions
- radishes
- Serrano peppers
- eggplant
- beets

Would like to do summer squash but am unsure if I have room. Would be greatly appreciated if you folks could take a stab at making configurations for a single 4x4.

thx!

Welcome from an ex-Austinite (but still in Texas). You might be a bit late for bulb onions -- we usually plant them in late January/ early Feb. Beets will stuggle to make it in the heat too. BUT there are lots of warm weather veggies you can try. Chard is one of my favourites -- it produces well even in the heat. Peppers (any kind) and of course tomatoes. If you can find a bush summer squash, you could plant it in the corner square and let it come over the side. Look at a large nursery for the seeds.

Please keep us posted as to your progress and come back often to join in our discussions.

Hey OssoB,
Welcome to SFG & the Forum. Please post some pics once you've got your garden planted and keep us posted on the progress. We love to see what others are doing.
Very Happy

I'm in Austin too and just got started today! I'm trying to figure out how to grow some of my favorite flowers in the SFG way.
