How Old Are Our Gardeners?
How Old Are Our Gardeners?
Tell us how old you are! It's been about a year since the last age poll, and we have lot's of new members, so a couple of us thought it would be interesting to see how the age numbers compare to last years. Please take part in the poll
It will run until April 13th, and then we can compare last years numbers to this years

is how old I am. Feeling younger (mentally) every day. At the current rate of regression, I should be a teenager again pretty quick. Unfortunately, the body is not synched to the mind.

39, getting ready to hit the big four zero before the poll runs out. I'm hoping my birthday present to myself will be 3 hens, but this will require me to take down(and empty) a shed and to build a chicken coop. Luckily I always take my birthday week off from work!

Re: How Old Are Our Gardeners?
I'll be 70 on April 3rd but don't feel it, except when I do too much bending. Couldn't begin SFG til I moved to where there was some space around our house so started late, in my 67th year. Wish I could have done this much younger.
In fact, I was out today sowing spinach, radicchio, carrots, and radishes. I'll be out again after lunch to sow Swiss chard and scallions. I'm loving this warmer weather we're having in the northeast but I've got my old towels ready in case I have to cover any squares. Oh, and my garlic is starting to sprout up green from last Oct.
Happy Gardening everyone!

I am 55. So is my husband. I do the planning, planting and maintenance on the garden. He does the critiquing! Also, enjoys helping harvest. He sets up equipment, like watering. We both love eating homegrown/healthy food and share the cooking/preserving of the harvests.

Re: How Old Are Our Gardeners?
I'm ummm... let me think here... 58. Hubby is 41. We both enjoy gardening (sort of an obsession), although I'm more involved in the veggies than he is. He is SO good to me though, helping turn or shovel compost, lugging bags of garden stuff around, digging (when we needed to), and not giving me grief when I spent all that money on the MM for all the beds.
We're hoping to morph our veggie garden into one that will give us a variety of produce throughout the year, and he's very excited about that.

Re: How Old Are Our Gardeners?
Just turned 39. Gonna live it up this year, because I'll officially be old next year.
I wanted to vote again for my 4 and 2 year old kids, because they love to come out and water the garden with me. The 4 year old gets really excited when something new sprouts, and he's pretty facsinated with the leaves now that the seed leaves are giving way to the first true leaves on many of our sprouts.

Hey Rooster - we should do something special for the kids...

Oh and Curio - I'm just the reverse of you - Hubby is 63 and I'm 45... I don't get called his daughter as often as I thought I was going to...LOL

Re: How Old Are Our Gardeners?
I'm sure most of you have heard of the quote by Satchel Paige-----
"How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?"
According to my birth certificate, I'm 66, but my innards say 35! When I look into the mirror, I wonder who the HEYYYY that old lady is!!

We're both mid 50's here. We're grateful to enjoy the outdoors and very mindful of pacing ourselves. I want to do so much more but the energy level
doesn't quite match my younger self.

Ok it says 0-20, now I know I'm not the only one that falls in that age bracket!
I know I saw somewhere on the forum, a little boy mixing mels mix, and spreading it out in the sfg and had mels mix on his shirt and was using a water can! Doesn't he count? How about all those ages 0-20...come on I know there's more out there!

Re: How Old Are Our Gardeners?
I just want to let everyone know the poll is confidential. No one can see your age when you vote. I do like reading all the posts everyone is posting, but if anyone feels uncomfortable revealing their age, you can still take part in the poll and no one will know how old you are if you don't want them to

Oh, I don't mind if everyone knows I'm 29.

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

47 here! But in my mind, somewhere in my 30's. My 7 year old son regularly tells me I'm old (probably because I can't remember ANYTHING anymore and am always asking them to remind me of something or other.....)
