Well, folks on the other end (in PNW) have been hemming and hawing so I just announced that I didn't care what anyone else does---I"M PLANTING MY SFG!!!!!

Been raining here today and when I looked out the window, I saw that the bags of compost that I put in the wheelbarrow are underwater! As I was starting to empty the water, I thought, wait a minute---is this not a weakened version of compost tea??? So it will sit there until I can find something in which to store it, I guess.

Ya know when you get up early on a Sat. a.m. and get all ready to go out to shop around then discover it's only 7 a.m. and nothing's open for another 2 hours??? Well, I'm waiting on vermiculite AND some really nifty compost (chicken, goat, horse, hay and who knows what other goodies). My sweet peppers, basil, chives, and parsley are all up and reaching for the sunshine in my sewing room.

Is it the end of March yet??????

I know that exciting feeling of raring to go but no place to go to just yet.

I've been trying to get my final two tons of leaf mould delivered for the last forthnight or so.

First the delivery truck failed its annual road safety check and had to be taken off the road for repairs.

Now fully roadworthy , loading was in hand , as the guy was using his backhoe to load the truck it blew several hydraulic hoses all at once. ( real messy but funny ).

So today I have driven over to the place where the leaf mould is and got as near as I could to it without bogging the car and trailer in .

Then I hand loaded 1/4 a ton in the trailer using a four gallon bucket , one bucket at a time , having to walk 39 yards each way from trailer to the heap. (It took me over three hours inc some much needed rests )

I'm now the proud owner of 1/4 ton of quality 30yr old leaf mould & mega backache.

Our remaining SFG beds start getting filled tomorrow if it stays fine.

I wonder how much weight you lost hauling all that stuff by hand? It's amazing the lengths we go to when finding treasures for the garden.

Obrdrin, Today in my corner of the PNW we had rain, hail, snow and lots of wind! But the lettuce, radish and spinach sprouts all survived. Certain types of plants don't mind cool weather and they take longer to germinate. It wouldn't hurt to try a few seeds in a square or two depending on your local weather and hardiness zone. I usually start with radish seed (I live in zone eight). Happy Gardening!

HC, I haven't got my MM in my beds yet----waiting for vermiculite--grrr! Have mushroom and cow compost. Need to go get the alpaca compost and am waiting for a chicken/goat/horse compost to be brought in from the farm in 5 gal buckets.

The waiting is killing me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the meanwhile, I need to figure out an irrigation system, for I, too, am a Happy Camper!!
