Bordeaux Spinach

Anyone grown Bordeaux Spinach? I picked some seeds up for it yesterday:

40 days. Bordeaux brings a new look to an old favorite. This upright vigorous spinach has wine-red stems and veins that really stand out against the dark green, oval leaves. Combined with a sweet, subtle flavor, Bordeaux will add a colorful and nutritious splash to salads or any other spinach dish.

I've never tried it and thought it looked interesting. I always seem to do the same things so this year I would like to change it up a bit Wink

No idea on the spinach, but see we have the same taste in magazines. Very Happy

I have been growing something a lot like that called Beaujolais from Uprising Seed in Bellingham, Wa. It is a delight raw on a mixed greens platter. Because I only planted a test square I did not grow enough of it to do much else. Pick (or snip) them young. The older leaves are more like chard than spinach. I will crowd it in the square this year, planting it twice as thick as spinach since I do not want it to get big before I snip it. (big leaves are not very big, just bigger than the babies. If we have the same thing, it doesn't look like a stem with leaves the way your packet seems to show. I'll see if I have a pic somewhere, but with all the slugs last year, I don't think anything in the box I grew it in got very pretty.

The pictures both seem to have the same stem and vein coloration, but the Bordeaux appears to have a rounded leaf and the Beaujolais seems more of an arrow shaped leaf with cuts in the lower part of the leaf. Both are typical spinach leaf shapes.

Either would be beautiful in a salad.

I want red spinach too!

Whew, I can't tell much of a difference, but I don't have a great eye for detail either. And yes furbalsmom, I think either would look great in a salad!! Very Happy

And Debs, by looking at the photo's, it does have that chard look to it!

They are both lovely! I think it would be a wonderful addition to fresh greens. Does anyone know if it will lose the red color when cooked??

I was comparing the drawing on NkedRoosters package which looked like rounder leaves, to the photo from the link on LavenderDebs Beaujolais.

When you look at the two photos, the leaves do look the same.
