The Last Tomato
Wowie. First frost last night so I went to the house and found one nice large sweet potato and one last red tomato in the center of the plant that was still ok. The summer plants all frizzled and shriveled so that is the end of that. The beets seem happy, although they only have three more weeks to grow before forced evacuation.
Below is the tomato I picked today on the left and one I picked last week on the right. I guess it really is winter now. :>

That tom sure looks great. I haven't seen one like that for months now. I didn't realize you got freezing temps in zone 9.

Well, zone 9 is lows of -7 to -1 C (20 to 30 F). And I am not sure if 30 minutes below 32F qualifies as actually freezing, but I can tell you that tomatoes and sweet potatoes do not like it! I think only Zone 10 does not expect any frost and even they can get it every so often what with Mother Nature not really giving a da** about our zone definitions. Haha.
