I bought the book about a year ago and have been lurking around on here trying to learn as much as I can. This spring the project began. I built a 25 x 27 fence, put in 7-4 x 4 beds (six with 2 sided trellis's), a 4 x 4 strawberry pyramid, 2 x 4 asparagus bed and a 8 x 4 flower bed with soaker hose connected to the 2-50 gal rainbarrels i installed and 5 yards of stone in pathways. Very excited to be done as it was alot of work. now the fun begins!! cheers New garden from Dartmouth,MA (pics) 53366

Wow!

Are those boxes cedar? Were they a kit or did you make them? I've never seen rounded corners like that - neat.

I've never seen a strawberry pyramid. Wow.

I've never seen potatoes grown in garbage bags, but what a great idea, you probably unfold the bag as you tower up?

How many hours do you think this took you?

Absolutely amazing. Great job! That belongs in a gardening magazine.

And the fencing with the garden gate is wonderful, too.

Thanks and to answer yur ?'s

- they are a composite of recycled plastic and woodfiber from frameitall.com, they sell all different kits. a bit pricey, but has a 25yr garantee and I liked the two sided trellis's as i planned to grow a vertically.

-the bags are actually "polypots" big in the uk, seems like eveyone has them along border of their garden. they r heavy duty and have drainage holes. i decided last minute i wanted to try potatoes in "grow bags" and at $10-$20 a bag it would have been very expensive. I finally found them online (hard to find in usa) 12 for $9. not bad if u ask me!

-as far as time, a loooooonnnnnnngggggg time! Laughing i have a slope in yard and dug every plot level before installing beds, i'd do one or two a weekend after the snow finally left, fence- a couple days and the rock and weed barrier a couple of days as well.

thanks again to everyone for all the positive comments!! Very Happy

I noticed you had a slope on your site and wondered why you had decided to make the beds level.

Where is north in your pictures. I can understand making them level if the slope was facing north, but I feel there would have been an advantage if the slope was facing south so as to take advantage of the extra warmth.

Beautiful set-up and I look forward to more pictures as the season progresses.

Can you give us an address for the polypots you got online? 12 for $9 sounds a good deal.

The trellis kits actually attach inside of the corner joints and would angle quite a bit as well as drainage reasons. ill get back to you on the polypots-ive gotta look around online and then i'll post the link.

Very impressive design. But, I have a question....

Where is the bench? You know. The one that reserves MY seat at the table? Seems you forgot that I will be coming over to read books and snack on veggies in your beautiful setup.

Simply awesome. Mega claps! New garden from Dartmouth,MA (pics) 679265 New garden from Dartmouth,MA (pics) 679265 New garden from Dartmouth,MA (pics) 679265

Must have; I couldn't have created that from scratch. I see the suggestion for a bench, and raise it one small water feature!

Great job.

No, i filled only the top 6" with mm to keep costs down, the bottom is filled with dirt from the yard and topsoil and then weedcloth exept for the 2 level box, the lower section is corn and the higher is sweet potatoes with 12" of mix.

A question about the construction of the strawberry pyramid.

As each box is placed on top of the previous bed, does the MM get deeper with each layer? i.e. if the first layer is six inches deep, is the the second layer 12 inches and the top layer 18 inches?

To Dunkinjean: thanks for the kind words, the rainbarrels are from epcontainers.net, they are reused food storage barrels that i sprayed with krylon fusion. works well and better on enviroment than buying big name store barrels. i really like the rain diverter frome rainreserve.com but the bulkheads are horrible, they all leaked!!! i ordered some heavy duty bulkheads ive used in the past on acrylic fish tanks and they worked fine and are much cheaper.

To Kelejan: i think the answer is yes? there is a 4x4box, 6" deep, placed on that is a 3x3 box 6"deep, 2x2 on that and 1x1 on that.
