I think I'll be adding some mm to my potatoes in the next few days as there are some shoots & leaves that are up 6" tall now. But, in the same buckets / containers there are leaves that are just poking out & some that are 2 to 4 " tall. I need very specific help here. I know you are to add covering to the plants as they reach 6" or more, but what about the johny-come-lately's that are much smaller?

Should I expect to be burrying some potatoes while leaving others to grow more, in so having an uneven surface to my potatoe buckets & barrels? And , another potatoe thread... 601593

I don't know if it is right or not but I have been covering the ones that need to be covered and soil level in my potato bin is uneven. I have one potato plant that is 12" longer than the rest. My husband made me some tiny boxes that I have stacked on top of each other to get this plant covered. I'm interested in finding out what others have to say.

Personally, I don't think it will matter if the soil level is uneven. In site of growing potatoes for years and years, this is the first time ever that I am doing it this way so I am kind of a newbie at it too. There are always some that sprout and grow very quickly and then there are others that you think must have rotted and after you have totally forgotten about them, they sprout. Only the potato gods know for sure why this happens and they don't tell me anything. So...I am going to do like you and just cover them when they need covering and hopefully they will all catch up eventually.

Best of luck to you. I know I need it too! LOL!
