Seeds are all sprouting!

I was so excited to see that all my seeds have sprouted, I guess yesterday's sun helped a lot! I know in the book it said to plant 2-3 seeds and then pull the weaker sprouts and keep the best one. How long to you wait to do this?

Don't pull them! Use kids' scissors to cut the unwanted ones. That way the roots of the plants that stay won't get disturbed. Usually the seed packet will tell you when to thin, either a height or when the true leaves appear. For most of mine I waited until they were 1.5 inches.

That's surely a sign of spring.
You can also use your fingernails if they are long enough, just be careful not to pull.
I find an old embroidery scissor works great. They are the ones that are small and look like long-legged birds.

WOW. I just saw it's supposed to be 88 here on Monday - supposedly.

I knew that would happen. Jump from perpetual winter straight into dog days of summer.

How will this affect the plants? (lettuce, peas) I'm thinking it's time to plant the peppers, eggplants.

This weekend will probably be big for transplant sales.

Tips on eggplants:
Harden them off outside when nite temps are above 50F.
Wait until outside air and soil at least 70F to transplant outdoors.
Roots highly sensitive. Be very careful during transplanting.
Keep row covers handy in case of frosty nties.
Transplant a little deeper than in the pot.
Mulch heaveily after the soil has a chance to warm up.

Tips on peppers:
Plants should be ready to transplant when 4-6" tall.
Harden off a week before planting outside.
If blossoms appear before the move to the garden, remove them and any others that start a week after transplanting outdoors.
Transplant a little deeper than in the pot.
Nitetime air temps should be 55F or higher, soil 60F.

I'm getting mine outside to harden off today.

Yup, mine take field trips outside every day now.

My pepper plants might be 4", I'll have to measure them.

And only 1 eggplant seedling survived, so I have to hunt down an organic (?) grower for plants. I may have to replace my tomatoes with new transplants.

By the way, I have a layer of white dandelion fuzz on my beds. Shoulda thought of that before they turned to fuzz. I may have to take a dustbuster out there and vacuum them, or maybe a comb and try to comb them off the top.

Have to put the netting on the trellises too.

. Here are their eggplants. The tomato plants I bought from there are doing awesome. They use organic methods. Got them fast and carefully packed.

NHG... are there SEEDS attached to that fuzz???? I'd be out there hand picking every last one out of my garden!!! affraid

I mowed my yard before planting yesterday.... to get rid of any dandelions ready to "go to seed".

Huh - I never thought of mail ordering eggplants! That's an idea. I'll check locally first.

And yeah, if nothing else, I may end up with a beautiful crop of dandelions. But hey - salad greens, that counts, no? What a Face
