Potato Yield???
For those of you who have successfully grown potatoes in an SFG, bucket, garbage can etc. I have a couple questions. I saw Boffer's pics of the table tops 6" and 12" - how much do you all end up with? We tried Yukon Golds last year in a 20 gal pot, and we ended up hilling them all the way to the top - about 18". We didn't get much out of them and we suspect it was all the 90+ days we had. DH is insistent on trying them again this year. We put 8-9 of them in a 4x4. How high do we really need to hill? How much should we expect if all goes well this year?

Re: Potato Yield???
I have four 4x4 beds of potatoes and just added the second vertical box layer today. That means I will have 11 1/2 inches of soil so far for the potatoes. I would be interested to compare what I do and what you do this year as far as soil levels. I also use grow bags, maybe 15 or 20 gallon and I got good results last year - using them again this year as well!

That would be cool! We're trying to find some of those Blue potatoes, we really like the taste of them I don’t know if we will get them going this year but I'm hopping to try at least one bag of any kind of tuber. We occasionally get a mix at the store that has blue, Yukon gold, sweet and white potatoes all diced together and we love it but they don’t always carry it so I would like to grow my own.

Re: Potato Yield???
I'll take some notes and we'll compare at the end of potato season . I think my biggest challenge will be keeping my dog out - if all works well I think we'll move to a table top next year. We had friends last year that grew pink pototoes....they looked a little funny in my baked potato soup but they were good!
