Home Depot: 4x4 cedar beds $34.97
Just saw in the Home Depot ad online that they have fancy looking raised cedar bed kits for $34.97. Has anyone used this particular kit? any feedback? I like the fancy corners, and know that with redwood and cedar being similar pricewise, and I just paid $32ish for 2x8x12 redwood, this sounds like a deal.
Any other thoughts?
it's on page 2

Looks to be regional. My page two is washers and dryers, fridges and stoves, most of the ad is appliances...

It is in the ad for the STL area. They look better than the ones I got at Big Lots for $25.00 but mine are already put in and filled.

Re: Home Depot: 4x4 cedar beds $34.97
It is regional. I used to live in Seattle so when I went to look my computer brought up washers and dryers also. I switched it to my current location and up came the same ad you have with outdoor stuff.
They look nice. Price comparing it with building your own cedar box from home depot, where I bought my wood, I think it's a good deal. You would save a few dollars making your own but if you want the decorative features in the corners I thinks this might be a great way to go.
My cost analysis: My current living situation is temporary so I ended up buying pine wood, $8/ 1"X8"x8' made my boxes $16/box for just wood. The cedar was slightly different size but 8' still was $15 per piece, $30/box. Hopefully these numbers will help you decide. If you don't plan on moving and want to keep your boxes a very long time cedar is the way to go.

These look good, and reasonable. I get to the website for my area, put in your zip,
and they have them, I put in for WA. I couldn't buy the lumber for that. Anybody know how deep they are?

I saw these a few weeks ago set up at the store and was not impressed with the store model. The wood was warped and there was gaps where the wood stacked.

I noticed the gaps in the picture on the box. Stapling some weed cloth to the interior is an easy fix for the gaps, but warped wood is a problem.

Re: Home Depot: 4x4 cedar beds $34.97
I put hands on them today & wasn't very impressed.
As mentioned, the gaps (2 slats per side) turned me off and to say the wood was "rough cut" would be an understatement. The slats are also a little thin, so I would anticipate bowing to be a problem.
Looked like they might last a season, tops ....and you would spend more time picking splinters out of yourself, than gardening.
Also looked like a spray can would be the only way to paint them ..... surface is just too rough for anything else.

These hit our ad this week in the Phoenix area. I picked up 2 today using a 10% off coupon on top of it. Great deal.
Our ad says they are on sale through 4/20/11.

Re: Home Depot: 4x4 cedar beds $34.97
I stopped at HD yesterday. I like the style of the corners but I was not impressed with the flimsy side boards. To me it appeared the regular price was 34.97 not a sale as the shelving was marked with stickers not the temporary tags. I will have to think about this a little longer but I think I would rather buy 2x8x8 and cut them down to 4ft and have plain corners.

The pretty corners are also what attracted me to them at first .....
I just passed because of the rest of the product construction ..... and the thought of having to dig up/transfer all that MM, if the product didn't last for me.
Florida is brutal on wood & even the best stuff doesn't last long around here.

I wonder how much would it cost to make the vinyl one's?

Oh,man, guys!!! I had already decided that I was going to go ahead and buy 2 of these for adding to the garden for fall. Flimsy construction? Bummer.
I guess next you guys are gonna tell me there's no Santa Claus!
Kidding aside, thanks much for letting us all know that they might not be the deal they at first appear to be. I, too, have decided against the boxes since I don't want to have to redo boxes filled with Mel's Mix any sooner than necessary.
Thanks for the heads-up.

Okay, guys, here I am to mess with your heads.
I saw one of these at my local HD yesterday. Now, first of all, I think my HD might be run by aliens. The way I can tell is that every single time I shop there, all the sales people are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I know, I know.....
BUT, I really liked these boxes. I thought the two inch thick cedar would last for a long time. Now, the sad part is, the only one they had was set up for display...
