I want to plant a SFG of strawberries, but I have a lot of trouble with slugs. I have heard that if you put copper tape around the area that they will not cross it because it "shocks" them. I have never been able to find any copper tape. I was wondering if I could fasten copper tubing to the top rim of my SFG if that would stop those nasty thiings. Anyone think it would work?

Yeah, the copper tape doesn't work so much. Hand picking, small dishes of beer, piles of flour, board to catch them on the underside, or last ditch effort of slug be gone. Slugs love strawberries.

What if the strawberry bed was on a table? I have an old round metal table and with the bed off the ground would that help keep the slugs at bay?

It would as long as you start with Mels' Mix and fresh plants. You do not want to transfer any slugs, slug nests, or slug eggs into the strawberry bed. There may be some eggs wintering over in the soil or among the plants that are in the present strawberry plants. Not sure if you would be able to get rid of everything or not. I understand your frustration. I have to go some to keep the slugs away from my strawberries too.

I don't know if it works but I did see the copper tape yesterday at Home Depot in the same area as the other slug treatments.

I just mulched all my strawberries on the ground with cocoa-hulls. Said to repel slugs. I have a lot of lavender in the same garden; the scent has me thinking of lavender-brownies. If I don't eat my way to "too big to get out the door" I'll let you know how the hulls do. I suspect that it will be no different than many other things I've tried but they sure do smell good.
