CONTEST: Guess total vine length of my rampicante squash!
Courtesy of my HOA's insistence and infinite wisdom, in the next few days I will be pulling my rampicante squash plant. SO.... in celebration and in requiem, I would like to propose a contest!
After pulling it, I will measure the total length of the vines. (There is only one squash plant in the photos.) Branches will be cut and measured individually for adding up. Weather permitting, I will lay them end-to-end and take photos of the silly thing, but we're expecting a lot of rain here in the next few days.

If you'd like to play, please post your guess to this thread. Cut-off... let's make it Monday, October 4 at 8 p.m. EST. You can refine your guess before the cut-off; I will only look at the newest one.
Happy gardening!

Guess the total vine length!

- Prizes:
- 1st place:
The person who posts the closest guess by the cut-off wins their choice of seeds from my stash, up to 10 varieties.
2nd place: Same thing, up to 5 varieties.
3rd place: Same thing, up to 2 varieties.
Here is my seed list.
Please note: Some seed shared to me from friends has low seed count, so it might not be much if you pick that, but I will share! The vast majority is from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and packed for 2010.

Just curious-------will they ever let you grow another vine like this? Do you get to have more fun next year?

No, grand total... every inch of vine, including branches.

And, I'll try to grow again, but it'll have to be in the backyard next year, if I do.

I'm guessing from your house to the neck of the closest HOA agent. Perhaps 446 feet. Have fun and sent all of the squash bugs to their office.

My guess is 253'
This is a fun way to end the season. And I'm with Patty about the necks of the HOA agents... oh wait! I pluralized that... I guess I'm a little more vindictive than Patty...

You know ..... with a sqaush vine that big, you undoubtedly have a few extra squash laying around ...
With 1 galvanized pail or a dutch oven lid & a length of surgical tubing tied to a fencepost on each end .... you could probably make yourself feel a whole lot better.

I'm guessing around 175 ft. HOA is obviously not a SFG'er !! that was to funny Patty, sounds like a horror movie the revenge of the squash that ate the HOA ! does the contest winner get to tell them where to, oh well never mind !

Re: CONTEST: Guess total vine length of my rampicante squash!
LOL Ward.... We've been getting that same rain here, too. I went home from work early today and was out IN that rain for over three hours!
The results:
1. One extremely waterlogged, dirty, tired Megan.
2. Now you see it... now you don't.....

Now to measure the vines! (And finish cleaning up, buy pretty flowers, all that stuff.)
