For five years I've been able to say that I've never had a slug in my table tops. I can't say that anymore-I found one in my lettuce today. very sad

I'm assuming the little sucker climbed up the legs. My hope is that the cinder blocks this table sits on are more appealing to climb than the steel legs that all the other tables have. It's a fitting way to end the season! Oh well, I guess one slug in five years isn't bad.

I planted 10 squares of garlic today and put a little roof over the box so the garlic wouldn't stay saturated all winter. There was no rain today until late afternoon; I finished up my day by standing in the rain and watering the garlic with the sprinkling wand!

I wonder how long it took the slug to get up there. So much effort for so little return...Poor guy. You almost want to let him eat for awhile after all of that.

good thing it was only one ! what is on the ground below the boxes? we have bark in between ours and I really think it has helped cause they don't like to crawl over that surface, so we have'nt had any either and ours is on the ground. I would put vaseline on the post with salt. Sounds so mean when I say that but its them or my garden!

I wonder if a bird could have dropped the slug onto your table top?

I don't know anything about slug reproduction, but perhaps a bird picked up slug eggs on its feet and then dropped the egg which hatched on your TT. I suppose you could even have picked up an egg on the end of your water hose and transferred it while watering.

(Then my mind's picture changes to one of Boffer watering his garden in the rain, his water hose happily burping out slugs among the garlic.)

According to Google slugs are hermaphrodites. After mateing each will lay eggs. There is also a picture of an adult slug and baby. You Tube has a 5 minute video of Slugs Reproducing. I could not even think abuot watching that!
