Fall Crops

Are you starting to think about your fall crops? I am. Yesterday I started some broccoli inside in small pots, I have 6 romaine started (about 2" tall right now) and 9 prize leaf lettuce started.

If you don't have room in your garden, you can start your fall crops inside under lights just like you did in the spring to get a head start. I have learned that I need to give indoor plants a full 16 hours of light and diluted fertilizer every couple weeks in order for them to stay healthy.

What are you planning on growing this fall? With mild winters, you might be able to continue growing all winter long although expect slow downs during December and January when it is often coldest in our region.

This topic is right on time. I need some motivation!
I have seeds for letttuce, turnip/collard/mustard greens,sugar snap peas, & swiss chard.
But, I'm tired of gardening, and I'm starting to get back into my other hobbies like card making, scrapping, machine embroidery and beginner crochet.
I may only plant 6 ech of lettuce,turnip, and sugar peas.

I am glad it is motivating. I am trying to get myself going to just plant a few fall plants in my open squares. A neighbor told me it might be too late for me to get a fall broccoli crop in but our winters are mild so it should just winter over and produce earlier if I can get the seeds to germinate.

1chichi -- start small and just do a square. I find that it is getting started that is often the hardest for me and then I get into the task. You will probably be happy you did once the crops start producing! It will give you produce to eat while you are making your cards and changing the threads on your embroidery machine.
