Hi all. Recomendations for fall planting zone 4?
Its been a while since I have made any posts. First year I have done a SFG and holy cow! I have had the best crops ever! Things that wouldn't grow before in my traditional garden have grown like crazy in SFG. I will be posting some pictures soon. I have never been so happy with my garden. So now it's getting to the point where some of my boxes are empty and I am wondering what I can plant in the fall. I read on another post broccoli, cauliflower, kale, spinach, and carrots. What else grows good in the fall?

In addition I found for zone 4 in August: celery, endive, kohlrabi, radish and turnips.

for my zone 5 garden i plan on doing cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi, turnips, rutabaga, beets, radishes, spinach, kale, chard, lettuce and carrots. I also plan on over wintering carrots, garlic.

Hi Amy,
So glad to hear your garden is growing well! This is my first year with SFG and I am really happy with it too.
I have a lot of hopes for fall crops -- milkweed (thanks Nancy!), pumpkins which I started over the 4th of July weekend, kale (thanks ander!), mustard, parsnips, celery, cauliflower, more brassicas... my biggest problem right now is finding places to put them all. I think it's finally time to tear out my basil and make pesto. I've been leaving my carrots alone to try to get them bigger... I may do that in a few weeks to make room for the parsnips. (Timing off, there??)
I had originally intended more chard for a fall crop, but my spring planting is still going strong. That stuff just keeps going!
