My early Oregon Springs are ripening at last.
I was so surprised this morning when I went out to weed and water my cabbages and strawberry bed.
I found these ripening so nicely. Its so nice to know that soon I'll have tomato juice running down my chin and a silly smile on my face.
I planted seedlings on April 24th when our last spring frost is usually May 30th, so that's a good month ahead. I also made sure I had my heavy row cover ready which protects crops down to 28 degrees. They were slow to grow during the cold spring, but once it warmed up they filled out. These are determinates.
I'll be saving seeds later from these babies if the taste is as good as claimed.
Except for some Matt's Wild Cherry toms that are planted in my A-frame, these are my first tomatoes here in Maine.
